We named this one for the sugar maple, then let the tree pick the rest. Rust and burnt orange across the beds, iron lanterns, a rug worn soft in the colours the leaves turn every October. Haven was the other half of the name, and we meant it. A queen and two twins, everybody in a bed of their own, and for a few days nobody needs anything from you.

The one syrup comes from. Forty gallons of sap boil down to a single gallon, and the sap only runs when the nights freeze and the days thaw, which is a couple of weeks in late winter and not a day longer.
